Do Not Be Afraid
I wonder how many of us refuse to open bills, out of fear of bad news?
Do you keep your eyes closed when driving and when the road gets rough? I am guessing you do not. I am guessing you are paying extra close attention and your reflexes and mind is focused on overcoming the bad patch of road, correct?
Why is it different for your finances? Yes, you may be in serious debt, and yes you may know the bill contains news less than happy. Still, you should know exactly the situation, it may not be as bad as you think it is and even it is as bad or worse then what do you do? You make a correction.
Similar to driving, you never drive straight to a point, your car veers off, it wavers, and you make minor corrections and adjustments. This process occurs continuously while you are driving. Even if you see a patch of ice coming up you do not close your eyes, you concentrate all the more, you ease any speed changes you are engaged in, you attempt to drive straight through as possible, and prepare for dealing with a skid.
So too with financial woes. Do not despair, take your hands off the wheel, and say “whatever”. Open that bill, scan it to make sure there are no fraudulent or tricky charges, and let it steel your resolve!
Trying to change myself and you on thrift and savings! It is hard to save save save in a spend spend spend world, but it is better to save than spend!
