Do Not Be Afraid

I wonder how many of us refuse to open bills, out of fear of bad news?

Frugal is About Good Value

From Gather Little By Little:

Anyway, I think you get the idea. I am sure I could sit here and list examples on both sides of the frugal fence for hours, but I think the examples above show how we’re frugal in some areas but not in others. I find it very interesting to listen and read about different peoples frugal and not so frugal practices. Doing so makes me realize that being frugal isn’t a set line in the sand, yet more of a very personal set of choices. I also think being frugal is very relevant. For example, compared to Lynnae and Jenn am I frugal? No, probably not. Compared to others though, I am very very frugal.

Frugal vs. Miserly

More than a few people may believe frugal and miserly are synonyms. However, it is my considered opinion there is a vast difference between the two.

Being frugal is being wise and being a miser is actually loving money in and of itself, not what it can get you, but money itself. Remember, money is nothing more than a stand in for the material things we need and want. If that paper with George Washington’s picture on it was just a picture you would not be concerned with getting so many!

Lending, Borrowing, and Friendship

Have you borrowed money from a friend or family member? I am not talking about $10 or $20 but a significant amount? A couple of hundred or a thousands? If so, how did it work out for you? Any advice?

We have some acquaintances who have loaned an individual a total of $20,000.00 and it appears they are going to lose the money. Some of those lenders made some very fundamental mistakes.

The Bible & Money Management

Many religious people will tell you that money is the root of all evil. I am not certain where that quote comes from, but it hardly seems likely it comes from the Bible.

No, money is not the root of all evil, lust for money is the root of all evil. Placing the acquisition of money above God, others, and justice is the root of evil.

In fact, there is much sage advice about money management in the Bible. This comes from Proverbs 6:6-11:

6 Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!

7 It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler,

8 yet it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers its food at harvest.

9 How long will you lie there, you sluggard?
When will you get up from your sleep?

10 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest-

11 and poverty will come on you like a bandit
and scarcity like an armed man.
