The Stores
I’ve Paid for this Twice discusses her shopping store haunts:
I go to three different stores because one is generally cheapest but does not have everything I need (Aldi), one is cheapest on the things that the first does not have (Walmart), and the last runs good sales and I get their flyer in the mail every week to check them out (Kroger).
Lorie and I primarily shop at one store and that is Woodmans but we stop at Festival, Copps, and the Calumet Asian Store. I am going to try to encourage Lorie to also stop at Plaza Philippines.
Woodmans is a chain centered in Northern Illinois and Wisconsin. It is a huge warehouse store and many people I know complain of getting lost in them, but Lorie and I know our Woodman’s well. Woodmans has good prices and wide variety. What they lack is quality produce. The produce often times is malformed or beaten up, if you don’t mind (and often times I do not) no problem.
Festival Foods is the seafood specialist especially if you are looking for crab legs. Sometimes they price them relatively cheap, they often have the gigantic Alaskan king crab legs for sale the ones you need a turkey cooker for! Definitely a treat and not an everyday meal. Festival has a respectable produce department but are more expensive than Woodmans and Festival is very conveniently located on the way to/from Lorie’s work.
Copps is an infrequent stop for us. Their prices are not the greatest, where they excel though is in the fact they have a branch of our bank in store and that banks is open seven days a week! If the 15th falls on a Sunday I can wait! Copps has a good produce department. Copps big problem is they are out of the way and unless they have specials we do not go.
Lorie and I only go to Wal-Mart for groceries if something else draws us there. Sam’s Club is the stop for TP, paper towels and the like. Aldis? We need to check that out and there is another place called Savers I need to check out.
Trying to change myself and you on thrift and savings! It is hard to save save save in a spend spend spend world, but it is better to save than spend!
